Interests

Books

Books are and have always been a refuge and a portal to worlds beyond measure. I read 1-3 a week.

Generally I favor science fiction and fantasy, and all the myriad subgenres of both, but it's rare for me to meet a book I dislike.

Music

I'm passionate about the weirdly inclusive, wildly diverse and eclectic world of metal subgenres. Especially interested in different instrumentation and cultural spins

• Folk metal: Some of the most interesting! Amon amarth (norse), Bloodywood (indian), Eluveitie / Finntroll (Celtic), The Hu / Tennger cavalry (Mongolian!)
• Power Metal: Axxis, Blind Guardian, Dragonforce, etc
• Prog Metal: Dream Theater, Sonata Arctica, Ayreon
• Symphonic Metal: Nightwish, Kamelot, Ad Infinitum, Seven Spires...

Gaming

Videogames, board games, tabletop - I enjoy learning new systems and mechanics, and then exploiting them. Ruthlessly.

I am of the firm opinion that games are as much a medium of art as any other. It's nigh impossible for numerous artists across disciplines to collaborate for years and not produce art.

Sports

• Rock Climbing: Mostly in a gym. Usually bouldering. Currently introducing my oldest daughter to it
• Hiking: Being in nature is one of my happier places in life. Possibly only second to libraries and bookstores.

Travel

I love travelling and going on adventures with my family. A typical vacation involves at least one national park if travelling domestically. Looking forward to a time when we can travel internationally again with children.
